Start Your Journey

There are three main components to getting started on your flight training

Obtain Medical Certificate

01

  • Important! If you have any medical history or are on medications, do research before applying for an FAA medical. Some medical history requires special documentation at your initial AME appointment.

    To start your medical application process, create an account at:

    MedExpress

  • You will contact an FAA approved Medical Examiner to obtain at least a 3rd class medical.  If you are from Central WI, the closest AMEs are:

    Ashley Anderson: 608-836-1711, 8300 Airport Rd, Middleton;

    William Scorby, 608-775-6345, 1900 South Ave, Founders Bldg Occupational Health Services, Lacrosse;

    or Dr. William Blank, 608-788-4889, W5843 Vista Dr, Lacrosse.

    If you need an AME from outside this area, here is a website to search for examiners in your area.

    Select Search for an Aviation Medical Examiner, Designee Type:  AME, Location Search: Search by State and then scroll through the options.

    You need your medical before you can Solo an airplane.  However, it's best to take care of this step sooner than later.

Written Test Preparation

02

  • Preparing for your written test is very important.  It lays a foundation for all the knowledge you need to gain during your Flight Training.  It also uses up mental energy to learn it.  To maximize your flight training dollars, completing the written as soon as possible frees up mental energy for you to build the new skill you will learn for the flight portion of your training for any rating!

  • We offer a Written Test Prep Ground School via ZOOM year around! Contact US if you want to join us for certain topics or for the ground school! $35 a session -OR- $350 Entire Ground School. ($65 Dauntless APP/ written test prep supplement is separate.)

    There are a lot of options on the market to support written test prep.  We have our students use dauntless-soft.com for Private Pilot written test prep.

    We recommend https://www.sheppardair.com/ for the other written tests.

    It’s important to note: Students need ground support from the CFI to help simplify the information they are learning and answer specific questions they have.  There are a lot of CFIs who do not schedule time with their students for this!  We are here to help you succeed.  We find these topics to be a common struggle: Weight and Balance, VOR Navigation, Cross Country Planning, Airspace, Cloud and Visibility Requirements.  We zoom with students throughout the US for written test prep!
