We answer all your questions to help you get started on this amazing journey. We help you navigate ground school options and help you determine when to take each step. Getting your Private Pilot in as efficient manner as possible, with Instructors who aren't 'building time' to leave for the airlines is key to saving you time and money. FAA requires a minimum of 40 hours of training, national average is 70. This involves passing a written exam, completing required ground/written training, and passing a Checkride. Click on Private Pilot Certificate to see the training requirements. This Certificate allows you to fly by Visual Flight Rules (outside the clouds.)

Now that you have your Private Pilot Certificate, consider adding on your Instrument Rating. This rating allows you to fly through the clouds, also described as navigating by instruments. This rating involves another 40 hours of training (Minimum of 15 hours with a CFII). This involves passing a written exam, completing required ground/written training, and passing a Checkride. At Take Flight, we combine Commercial/CFI training preparation together! Transitioning to the right seat after Instrument rating, Vonda Benson and Tim Ponshock were two CFis that passed their Commercial/CFI Checkride on the same day. You will save time and $$!

This Certificate allows you to obtain a position that you can get paid to fly others. Sometimes people think this is what is needed to fly Commercial airliners -- that's an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP). This Certificate allows you to get hired to fly Charters, and is one of the required steps on your way to getting an ATP. Teaching others to fly is SO much fun! It's our passion. Many of you have the gift of teaching and would love to teach other's to fly. This is a culmination of all of your hard work!
